Birthday Suit celebrates the beautiful and ordinary state of being nude. Is it possible to view nudity in the Western world without sexualizing it? And without judging it? Yes. Birthday Suit will embrace the innocent & dignified nature of being nude at every age, and with bodies of every shape and size.
Children often play and socialize nude comfortably and naturally until they’re forced through parental and social pressure to wear clothing. The prudish American attitude toward nudity instills us with shame. The media has force fed us a distorted view of a glossed over, one-size fits-all body type, and makes us feel that we don’t measure up unless we fit into the cookie cutter standard of what a nude body should look like.
Birthday Suit will explore the idea that all bodies are beautiful and being nude is a natural state of being. Birthday Suit will include sculpture, photography, illustration & performance art. It’s a brilliant chance to honor a weighted and vulnerable subject in an optimistic manor. Right now, under our clothing, we’re all nude.
